There’s Nothing Wrong With You
Read that subject line again - it’s important to absorb.
After a recent talk I gave, multiple people told me they felt a sense of “longing.”
A subtle wish for something they couldn’t quite explain.
Not a different life, but a feeling that something was “wrong” with them.
But there’s nothing wrong with them and nothing wrong with you if you feel the same.
Longing is part of being human.
(Read that sentence again - it’s another important one.)
Mindfulness and meditation gently reveals this to us.
Our minds don’t magically settle because we get quiet for a moment.
We still think about dinner, our to-do list, or something painful from our past.
We still feel cold, or hungry, or restless, or like we can’t sit still for one more minute.
That’s normal, it doesn’t mean anything’s wrong.
The practice isn’t about stopping those thoughts - it’s about noticing them.
And realizing…
They’re just thoughts.
Passing experiences.
Not commands.
Not truths.
Not a definition of who you are.
Over time, the noticing of your thoughts creates space for them.
And that space brings a kindness toward yourself.
Less urgency.
Less need to fix or escape things.
More understanding that you’re not broken - you’re just alive.
You don’t need to “solve” your longing - you just need to acknowledge it.
You’re human.
Imagine that!
With warmth,
Lauren
